Love – It’s Time to Grow Up

“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:11 (TLB)

Devotional:

In this first part of the chapter, we are taught what real love looks like. Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13:11 remind us that part of spiritual maturity is leaving behind our childish ways and embracing a Christ-like love.

Childish love can be self-centered and conditional. It’s easy to love when it benefits us or when it’s convenient. But Jesus calls us to a higher standard—a love that is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. This kind of love reflects the very heart of Christ, who gave Himself for us even when we didn’t deserve it.

Growing up in our faith means striving to love others the way Jesus loves us. It means being patient, kind, and forgiving. It means putting others’ needs before our own and showing grace, even when it’s difficult. This mature love is a powerful testimony to the world and a reflection of God’s character working through us.

Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for showing us what true love looks like through Jesus Christ. Help me to grow in my faith and to love others as Christ loves me. Give me the strength to put away childish ways and embrace a mature, selfless love. Guide me in my actions and words, so that Your love may shine through me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
